When you cook something you lose most if not all of the nutrients. I don't have specifc nutrient availability data or anything like that but the basic logic is that when you light any living thing on fire it gets destroyed. So basically the nutrients in all cooked foods are destroyed to a degree.

As for them being unhealthy, I say yes very. I still eat them because it's hard not to. I haven't put in enough effort required to cut them out of my diet. My incremental improvement I've experienced in my health from just cutting down drastically on cooked foods is good enough for the time being.

I've seen a little bit about this raw food thing... but I guess I don't fully understand it. I understand that when you expose food to high levels of heat (i.e. cooking it) some of the nutrients are lost... but does that mean it's bad for you, or just less good? I mean... theres nothing unhealthy about warm food is there?

Thanks for your question John. On an average day I'll probably eat about 25 bananas. There's variance in that though. I can't give you an exact number because I don't know. There's many variables such as activity levels, ripeness of the fruit, and other foods you eat, and current level of health just to name a few.

I will say that it's very difficult to overeat on fruit. Keep adding bananas and other fruits while excluding other things from your diet and you should fine.

Hi Tom,

My mother-in-law borrowed a Raw Transformation book from me, and her perusing has inspired me to get with it again. I thought back to Banana Man Tom and wondered how you were doing. Your post answered that. Again, percentages... I've probably been eating 50-70% raw, but see and feel the results of not going more. My energy is lower when there are overcooked foods in my diet. In Hawai'i, with dozens of fruit trees in the yard, I have no excuse! You should be able to get a good dose of grapefruit in FL! Take care (:

Totally makes sense, that's basically where I'm at too. Eventually I'll be able to transcend that box mentality, but I'm giving it time.

Initially I'll be living and working on an organic farm. I'm hoping that I'll like it down there and can get a place to move into.

This post rocks. I like to keep my own food patterns flexible. I'm not 100% raw, but it is my goal to eat as much raw as I can for over half the week.

I like the flexibility that I get from not putting myself in a box - if that makes sense.

Keep on rockin' it hardcore, Tom.
Light and love!!
